Cool Kids Garden!

Greetings fellow Gardeners

As per the school newsletter, you will be well aware that we are intending to develop a garden for the children at our school.  Initially this will start off with maybe one or two potagers then develop over time to include a variety of gardens.  The aim is to foster an awareness of where our food comes from, to grow healthy food for our bodies, and of course share and consume the healthy food that we have grown.

We also would like to encourage families to start growing their own healthy fruit and vegetables at home!

The gardens will be as organic as possible!  Teaching the children all about different plants, different types of growing conditions, showing children how and where to plant as well as how to nuture plants from seed to plate will be fun, rewarding and very exciting.

We would welcome any donations of seeds, seedlings, buckets, watering cans, hoses, gardening tools, seed raising mix and potting mix. in fact anything that you don't need or have spare would be gratefully accepted! - old pots, old planters,  etc anything that we can garden with!

We are currently looking for sponsers who can help practically and / or finacially with the establishment of the gardens.  If you are able or are aware of any business that may be able to help us please let us know!

On a practial note - if your child/children are interested in joining the lunch time garden club please provide a pair of gardening gloves for each child.  (Kings sometimes gives these away free!) and please make sure that your child has a hat and sunblock as we will be gardening out in the sun.  At this stage it looks like the garden club will be Tuesday lunch times. - But may have to be juggled as other commitments arrise closer to the end of the year.

I hope you are excited as I am about the garden, and all its possibilities.

If you have any wonderful ideas for the garden or are able to assist in the garden build - please do not hesitate to contact me at carolynh@oteha.school.nz

I would love to hear from you!
